The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and audience theories has been widespread.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
