The speculation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
